'SCUAA is not for Leyte Normal University alone, it is for the entire region'- Gabon

“The purpose of launching of SCUAA (State Colleges and Universities Athletes Association) is to make people aware that SCUAA is not only for Leyte Normal University, it is for the region.” said by the production coordinator Mr. Romyr Gabon in an interview during the SCUAA 2013 fun run held at LNU. He repeatedly stated that LNU may be holding the activity but the entire region is also working for the event.

The launching of SCUAA was first scheduled last September 10, 2013 but it was postponed and was moved to September 27, 2013 because of a heavy down pour. Present in the launching were Presidents and Sports directors of the 10 delegation schools, namely: Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), Eastern Samar State University (ESSU), Naval State University (NSU), Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), Samar State University (SSU), University of the Philippines-Visayas Tacloban Campus (UPVTC), North-western Samar State University (NWSSU), Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) and Visayas State University (VSU). They had witnessed the grand launching of SCUAA 2013 in Region 8 with its theme ‘passion, Fast, Forward’ led by the LNU president Dr. Jude Duarte.

Some highlights of the event were the dance performance of the LNU cheer dancers from all year levels as well as the performance of the Samliyaw dance group who were personally invited by Mr. Gabon. The fireworks display had also contributed a lot to make the event more worth remembering. It gained compliments from the viewers. Mr. Gabon said, “It was one of the successful activities.” According to him and his staff, the event was successful because they were able to see the theme that they wanted to happen. He also added that that event was the very first time in the region that had such launching.

The Leyte vice Governor Carlo Loreto and Tacloban City Councilor Cristina Romualdez also supported the   launching. According to Mr. Gabon the launching of SCUAA paved the way for the Province of Leyte and the City of Tacloban to work together. “The event showed their unity.

We really just have to initiate an activity for them to work together. Kung walang mag iinitiate, wala ring mangyayari dahil busy rin ang mga taong ito.” The event gained positive feedbacks and aside from the organizers, Mr. Gabon acknowledged the efforts of the LNU Mapeh majors. “I am so thankful that the Mapeh majors are working with us.” He also added that the event was a learning experience to all of them. “It was a nice experience that they can use someday.”
There were only minor problems that they encountered and these difficulties took place when they have to choose the design of SCUAA logo and the Platform. Mr. Gabon said, “The rest was not too hard kasi lahat pinaplano at pinag-uusapan.”
